On Saturday, April 25, The Malaspina Theatre offered a peek into the local film production. Except for a few visitors who were flapping their tickets to Beauty and The Beast, and trying to see the piece that was played at the theatre two nights ago, the audience, consisting largely of the filmmakers and their cohorts, seemed to enjoy both the showcased short films and the feeling of togetherness formed around an interest. Frequent outbursts of group laughter at comedic moments, and continuous chatter in the back rows (mostly during confusing or accidentally amusing scenes of some if the movies) acompanied the show, while the ultimate movie snacks and the green screen photobooth provided entertainment during the intermision. For the $10 admission, the night of local cinema was a pleasing and relaxing event that possibly sparked new conversations and inspired more than a few future short films.
